Hello mini anth good to hear from you mate :)) glad you like the game!! It's gonna be one hell of a challenge getting us all online to play it, the only good thing is that it doesnt suffer from a terrible framerate like Arma 2 did which means most of you guys can cruise straight into it without upgrading. I'm gonna give it a chance this weekend and see what happens. Cant believe I booked 3 days off work next week to play it... what a joke lol I'll probably just go into work to get away from it.

Add me on your friends list [-DST-] StryK

[QUOTE=-=Gumz=-;5758157]This handsome chap:

Is it because of this schlong-nosed bespeckled basket of sh1t that we don't have dedi servers?

Seriously Codemasters, on what planet do you think it's acceptable to release a multiplayer game with no dedicated server support? Your heads must be full of magic and dollar signs. I'm assuming there've been no announcements regarding dedicated server support because you're all still drunk from the champagne fumes that we all paid for with our hard-earned money.

You've clearly no idea what a crucial part the online community gave OFP1, with dedicated servers acting as a way for teams to recruit new players, leagues to recruit new teams, for mapmakers to support new leagues, and for a game to exist many years beyond the point at which its creators stopped caring (its last patch). Why after keeping us waiting for so long have you prematurely spunked this unconsidered and illegitimate garbage allover our faces? Why have you let Flashpoint fall into the landfill site of today's society where everything, including games, is disposable? Where crapping out a game every 10-15 seconds is preferable to concentrating on one project and getting it right.

'Your' sequel has clearly bent us over and guffed in our faces and I think it's disgusting that this game holds the Flashpoint name. This monstrosity you've unleashed on us is Flashpoint 1's mutilated and heavily disabled older brother, and for the past 7 years he's been bricked up down in the cellar... now he's escaped and he's reaping his vengeance.

You've left me ashamed to have ever encouraged my team into waiting for this game, Arma wasn't what we needed and we put so much hope into this flaccid member of a sequel that it's only now we realised that Arma really was the true sequel.

I've told everyone on my team to boycott their pre-orders and I'm urging as many of the other old teams I can not to buy this trash.

Are you sure you wish to uninstall Operation Gashpoint: Dragon Rising? 'Click'

Bang on John.

How long would it have taken to code support for dedi servers? I mean REALLY how long would it have taken? Whatever their answer it's laughably miniscule in comparison to the lifetime it would have added to the game.

I like how you highlight how it has a knock-on effect throughout the entire online community (players-Leagues-Mappers), it shows that they didn't even give anyone CHANCE to salvage what they churned out.

This whole fiasco has personally inspired a deeper respect for companies like Valve and Blizzard who maintain a 'until it's ready' development roadmap, which ultimately leads to the production of legendary games such as Half Life 2, World of Warcraft and Portal.

COD4 awaits!

What I struggle to grasp is how they've taken so long developing this game, not releasing it 'until it's ready'... and then completely failed to release a finished game. What a disastrous state of affairs.

I'll do a 2nd draft and then post it about 30 seconds before I get banned. That's right, Codemasterbaters have started deleting people's threads on their forum.

How much worse can it get...

Speculation on the forum... is that the game has been released so cheaply because CM are planning on releasing a 2nd portion of it as a separate product...
Well that's Codemasters for you. Consolemasters would be a better name perhaps as I can't remember anything they've done for years that was geared up for a PC.

The other big concern here is that their follow up support is poor, with patches slow to be released (the last tiny patch for GRID took over a year) and generally quick fixes rather than developing the game. In fact they have a marked tendancy to release, patch 2 or 3 times then abandon as they release the next game expecting you to fork out again. This is in stark contrast to BIS who have aimed high, stumbled badly releasing a game that many can't play properly yet but will keep improving even while they develop the next installment (Operation Arrowhead).

At least BIS have sorted the mouse lag that was making CTF a pain in the arse. The later beta releases and patch 1.04 have made it extremely customisable to the extent that I can just turn mouse smoothing off and have no lag whatsoever.

Arma2 isn't perfect, far from it, but at least it's got potential. I'm not so confident that CM really understand what this community wants or is prepared to deliver it.

P

Hiya Darky, nice to see you're still about mate. Also nice to be able to call someone 'Darky' without it being deemed racist. Are you still playing Arma 2? I was thinking of giving it another go.

Also, that letter I wrote to CM above, I've (slightly) modified it and wacked it on the Play.com PC review thread for OFP:DR with a 1 star out of 5 rating. Hopefully some people will listen...
